I’ve downloaded and installed Internet Explorer Beta 2. It’s clean and tabbed but I’m still not sure I like it. I still much prefer Firefox or Flock or something developed on the Mozilla platform.

Trying something new with posts. We’ll see how it works…..

I built a file server last weekend and it seems to be working quite well. I forgot how challenging it is to have to reset the domain on all the clients. The wife and I have lappers as well as the kids. Oh, I also configured it as a print server as well. That’s sure handy.

I woke up this morning with the worst headache that I can ever remember. I rarely ever have headaches and this one is a typical tension headache (yes, I still have it). I took several different medications this morning and all it did was make me sleepy.

The odd thing is that I don’t feel at all tense. I have been busy at work but it’s self-created pressure which I easily control. I’ve being doing some tedious design work on some databases but that’s what I enjoy. Oh well, I don’t want to always post complaints but it does help me to vent some of this stuff. I wish I could post more creative things that I often read on public blogs. We’ll see about doing that in the future.

Been a good while since my last post. It’s been crazy busy at the office. I’ve been trying to tie up some year end work. Went to the lake over the long weekend and had a good time. It was cold and windy. There were white caps on the waves. Hope to update more later.

Welcome 2006!

We just returned from our ski trip yesterday afternoon and had a blast. All the kids learned to ski and will soon be able to do more than I . I am so proud of them and was very impressed with their instructors at ski school. They were on “blues” by day two and were anxious to be on “black diamonds” before we left.

Although I’ve tried to resist, I just had to peek at my work e-mail to check the status of some projects I left in the trust of others. I was relieved to see that the status of them was good. I was relieved to be able to relax.

My resolution for this year is to try to relax more, worry less and just enjoy life. Worry certainly takes a lot of energy and energy I don’t want to waste. Here’s to the new year…

28 degress when I woke up this morning. Pretty chilly but it beats sweating and bugs.

I finally got a good night’s rest last night. I feel much better this morning. It’s amazing what about 7 hours of good sleep will do for you. I’m supposed to be off on holiday tomorrow and I’m hoping I’ll still be able to. I guess it will depend on the progress made today.

Having major application problems at work. Installed a new application December 1 which went well, however, still some submission problems and validation/audit problems. I’ve been working 12-15 hours a day and not resting well when not at work. I have a killer headache today which I woke up with. You gotta love stress!

I am SO looking forward to going home this evening and relaxing with a cocktail. Enough of my ranting but, hey, that’s why I started this blog. Another way for me to vent.

Countdown to Downhill

I was reminded this morning by one of the kids that only 12 days until we go on our Winter ski vacation. I can’t wait. I truly need a break from work and I’m looking forward to seeing the kids ski for the first time. They are SO excited!

We’ve rented a mountain cabin with a hot tub on the deck. There’s plenty of snow on the mountain with good cold weather in the forecast this year. Prior years have been unseasonably warm with no snow and the man-made snow melted away while we were there. Many of the trails closed which left us sitting around the condo bored. This year should prove to be perfect!

I’m learning to program. I’ve done lots of HTML, DHTML, etc. and have worked with Access and SQL quite a bit. However, actually writing an application is something new for me. I’m learning ASP.NET which seems to be the way to go for integrating databases with the web. It seems fairly easy thus far but I have to learn the programming fundamentals as well as the language as I move forward. Always have to keep pushing the envelope as far as learning and personal development….

New Hardware

I installed a new hard drive yesterday in our desktop PC at home. I’d never done that before and it was realy simple. I had a 40GB HDD laying around the shop and I wasn’t sure if it was any good or not. Lucky for me it was. I set the older hard drive as a slave drive so now I have a 30GB drive that I can use to store data.

I had one of the most aweful experiences last night. I’ve worked for the same company for 20 years. I was to receive an award last night at our annual Christmas dinner. I did and it was a piece of wood with a clock in it that didn’t work. 20 years for this? What a waste.

Next our new CEO took the podium as guest speaker. He asked that those of us who received an award to stand again for recognition “because you are hard”. “And um… yeah…” What an idiot. Oh well, I guess at least I can say I was there.
